Partner, Open and De-Risk Innovation With KTU Competencies and a Global Partner Network

KTU Open Innovation Centre is a university-based business club that matches your challenge with KTU expertise and European partners, validates solutions in real and open environments, and helps strategically reduce the risk of implementing new technologies and business models.

Ways to Engage

Partner: Collaborate Smarter

We match your challenge with KTU experts, European partners, and the Business Club network for peer learning, external perspectives, and access to international innovation practice.

  • Global networking (incl. Berkeley ecosystem links)
  • KTU expert matching: Business Fellows in Residence programme
  • Business Club network matching

Open: Innovate Openly

We run structured outside-in collaboration to produce defined deliverables.

  • Challenge Framing: scope, success metrics, constraints, decision criteria

  • Co-creation Sprint: prototype / roadmap / pilot design with stakeholders aligned

  • OI Research Impact Accelerator: explainers, cases, paper clinics, practical insights.

De-Risk: Reduce Risk Strategically

We reduce innovation risk by turning ideas into pilot-ready bets and new revenue streams through innovation.

  • New business models
  • New ways of partnering: consortium setups, partner incentives, IP/value capture guardrails
  • Developing “more shots on goal”

Why Collaborate Now?

Innovation is faster, riskier, and more networked. We help you act with evidence and partners

Icon – upward arrow representing rapid technological change and uncertainty.

Speed & Uncertainty

Technology and markets shift faster than planning cycles.

AI and digital technologies create rapid shifts. Companies need quicker experimentation to avoid expensive wrong bets. The winners run smaller experiments, decide faster, and scale only what works.

Icon – triangle with exclamation mark, symbolizing systemic risk and the importance of resilience.

Risk & Resilience

Risk is now systemic, not local.

Supply chains, regulation, cybersecurity, and geopolitics can break assumptions overnight. You need evidence and a coalition, not isolated internal bets.

Icon – globe with network grid, representing international innovation networks and collaboration advantage.

Network Advantage

Networks outperform isolated innovation.

Most open innovation fails because there is no structured ecosystem. OIC connects you to KTU experts and capabilities, European and global open innovation network, inside of a carefully curated business club.

What Is Open Innovation Centre

Vision

Neutral open innovation ecosystem orchestrator

KTU Open Innovation Centre is a neutral open innovation orchestrator.

We connect companies, researchers, and partners through a structured, governed ecosystem built for real outcomes.

Innovation

Interdisciplinary innovation, packaged for business

Innovation is rarely one-discipline. It needs engineering, data, business models, and adoption working together.

OIC packages fragmented expertise into one integrated offer for your business.

Goals

Build long-term ecosystem capacity

Open innovation is increasingly treated as mission-critical across Europe. Although, many corporate OI programs are optimized for short-term transactional wins. OIC complements that by building long-term ecosystem capacity.

FAQ

We help companies collaborate with KTU teams in strategic technology and industry domains, and connect to global innovation communities (including the Berkeley Innovation Forum ecosystem), bringing in external perspectives on innovation challenges and solutions.

Corporate innovation programs often optimise for internal pipeline needs and short-term outputs. OIC complements that by building cross-sector coalitions, packaging interdisciplinary competence, and providing neutral orchestration. You get partner access, structured pilots, and ecosystem capacity you can’t build alone without major overhead.

Start with a 30-minute scoping call. We clarify your challenge, timeline, and success metrics, then recommend an engagement pathway (matching, sprint, pilot). If relevant, we can also align it with the Business Club priorities and the annual Statement Paper.

Depending on the pathway: framing can start immediately, matchmaking is typically weeks, sprints are days, and pilot preparation is usually weeks to a few months. The point is to compress uncertainty and reach a clear decision faster.

We use standard confidentiality arrangements and define IP and value capture rules before deep collaboration begins. The default principle is simple: clarity upfront, no ambiguity later. Specific terms depend on the pathway and partners involved.

Membership is built around the Business Club core. Members co-shape annual priorities through the Statement Paper, get priority access to selected formats and expert matching, and can use OIC products such as Business Fellows in Residence, the Open Innovation Tool, Research Impact Accelerator, and global networking formats.
